Alois Mugadza, PhD
Bio

Dr. Alois Aldridge Mugadza works as a teaching and research fellow at the Caribbean Environmental Law Unit, Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies. He currently lectures and is the course coordinator for Advanced International Environmental Law at the postgraduate level and Caribbean Environmental Law at the undergraduate level.
Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Faculty of Law, Groningen, the Netherlands. His project is titled Water-Energy-Food Communities in South Africa: Multi-actor Nexus Governance for Social Justice? The project focuses on strengthening resource security and democracy in South African rural communities, specifically in three provinces: Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and North West Provinces. The project is funded by NWO (the Netherlands) and NRF (South Africa). The project collaborating partners are the University of Groningen, Utrecht University, North West University, and the University of Fort Hare (South Africa).
Before that, he held a research fellow position at the University of Johannesburg, South African Research Chair in International Law. He has also worked for several organisations, such as Natural Justice (Cape Town, South Africa), the Centre for Water Security and Cooperation (Washington, USA), IUCN: Environmental Law Centre, and the United Nations University: Environment and Human Security (both in Bonn, Germany). He is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law and a UNFCCC-nominated expert.
